Desperation Vs Passion

I do not know where to start this topic , it came to my mind while I was so restless after a 2 hour long meeting and suddenly this thought struck my mind... " At every point of time in life a person ,irrespective of gender , age , work , sexual orientation and blah blah ( every possible classification criteria that sociologists may use to classify humans ) , is running after something or the other. He ( No offense feminists I am using he just to put the point , one may replace it with whatever pronoun reflecting a person )always needs , I would rather say "wants" something so desperately that he feels that things are not as they should be . There is an illusion that his life will be so happy after getting what he wants. I was thinking that desperation for anything ,be it career, education, luxuries, money , sex or whatever
, creates a deep sense of rejection in others minds if it is reflected in the behavior.
Some times it is ridiculed too.
One question that I asked myself was that "what is the difference between chasing a dream and desperation to make that dream come true ?".
There comes the point of passion. (Passion :An irrational but irresistible motive for a belief or action ). I do not know why but Passion is a respected term in society . A person passionate about anything except drugs and sex is definitely respected in my society. By definition itself if you see desperation for anything is kind of a feeling which comes when you think that there are no hopes to get that thing today tomorrow or forever. Then we start pushing hard to get it and in turn what we get is a deep sens of despair , frustration to put it in better words "The feeling that everything is wrong and nothing will turn out well".
Even though it is not true. Just leave it for a minute and think whatever you are trying to get is not worth killing yourself with the thought that you need it desperately. Isnt it? Just think about it.

Anyway I got distracted from the reality and went to preaching. So coming back to the topic , what I feel is that approaching a problem with a positive thought not only in mind but reflecting that in our actions too is the key. There are things that we want to have but it is not always possible . SO leave what you dont get behind and look forward to what you can achieve. Be passionate about your goals ( only realistic ones ) and try to get that with all the means possible. I am sure it would make life a lot better and this world a lot better place to live.

THINK WHAT YOU CAN GET ( MOSTLY WHAT YOU NEED ) NOT WHAT YOU WANT.

Have a wonderful life .

Hi Rishikant,

I particularly liked that you sided with passion and not desperation.

I believe the same: passion and inspiration should be criteria for any pursuit in life. Unfortunately, you, me and a lot others find it difficult to be inspired and passionate. And desperation kicks in.

Also, why do we need to be passionate about goals that are realistic? Why not the unrealistic ones? And then, who decides what is realistic in a life governed by randomness.

In my post I have tried to identify a cause for desperation which is the situation when efforts to achieve a goal fail to bring desired results and the driving force behind the efforts starts dying thus crossing the line between passion and desperation.
So chasing a rather realistic dream is a safer way to stay sane and a realistic dream is a "Relative" term depending on an individual and his conditions solely like for me getting a seat in Indian Adminstrative Services is a realistic dream and spending my honeymoon on Moon with my honey an unrealistic one.
Noone but the individual gets to decide what is achievable, hence realistic, for himself.

Hope I answered your questions.

Desperation is the intensified expression of passion. An unrestricted passion yields in whatever best one can get out of his endevour, but desperation results out of compulsive tampering of one's sincerity and intention. Where would you discover a painter snatching the canvass away from him? You could name it anything, anyway per sure with your understanding and visibility? Desperation of an individual could better be understood as the unidentified crime by the society. Create a space for passion, this should probably the call. To your second point, In life, anything is achievable, there is no harm in defining and dreaming an objectives how obstruse it may appear; even you failed to score well in IAS exam.. who else could snatch your hard learning and a place somewhere similar?
